End of an Era

Well, this morning I found out that Pat Morita aka Mr. Miyagi died. He'll be immortally be remembered for his role in Karate Kid to all us kids who grew up in the 1980's. Also this week marks the end of Ted Koppel's time on Nighline. I'm one of those people who abhorr the monologue of late night TV and preferred the intellectual stimulus of Nightline. Maybe Ted Koppel is where I learned how to be so "strictly business" and my unfortunate hair style guru throughout junior high. There is something real abut this predecessor to "reality television". Nightline allowed subjects to be explored in a deeper manner than what the soundbytes of nightly news mainly allowed.

It is amazing to get to the point when I can say "remember when". We are what we experience. All of us must remember to get out and experience the world. An insular lifestyle strips us of our humanity.

Mi Encanta

Well Huzzah Huzzah. I'm now a bona fide salary man. Finally, the wheels of my job move slowly. I just pimped Michael the entire set of Johnny Cash's American Recordings. I suggest anyone to get their hands on that set of material. It is probably the most honest recordings I have ever heard. Walk the line was a excellent movie so pony up the $9 and see it.

The Senator's Response

ear Mr. Lusnia:
Thank you for taking the time to write me about your concern that I was doing a crossword puzzle during Judge Roberts' confirmation hearing. I am sorry for the delay in my response. I read every letter that my constituents send. Your input is valuable to me.
I am sorry that you were embarrassed to see me characterized as disengaged or uncaring during the important confirmation hearing process. I believe that voting on a Supreme Court nominee is one of the most important decisions a Senator must make. The potential impact a Supreme Court Justice can have on our nation is great. The Justice can either advance restrained jurisprudence or can advance judicial activism, taking away policy decisions from the legislature. Judicial activism must be reined in because it undermines the Constitution.
I took the entire confirmation process very seriously. I did not react to allegations or preconceived ideas about Judge Roberts. I waited until the completion of the hearings before I made my decision to support him. I will also withhold my decision on Judge Alito until I am fully informed and have had the full benefit of the hearing process.
Historically, confirmation hearings were conducted in a few hours time.
Only those with questions asked them. It was not until 1868 that the Judiciary Committee began the tradition of holding hearings on those nominated to the Supreme Court. It was not until the 20th century that hearings even became public. According to one expert source, the earliest Supreme Court confirmation hearings held in open session were those in
1916 but it was not until 1925 that the nominee participated.
To a large degree, modern hearings have become a theatrical event where members sometimes reveal more about their own positions than they ask of the nominee. I want you to know that during the time that Judge Roberts was being questioned or speaking, I did not have a crossword puzzle in front of me. I was only looking at the puzzle during the opening statements and during breaks.
However, out of respect for you and the great state that I represent, I commit that I will not do a crossword puzzle at any time during Judge Alito's hearing. Thank you for writing me, if I can be of assistance in the future please contact my office.
Sincerely, A
Tom Coburn

SenatorTom Coburn is a JackAss

I was watching "The Daily Show" on comedy central tonight. They played clips of Senator Tom Coburn spouting that his "heart aches for less divisiveness... less polarization... less finger-pointing... less bitterness... less partisanship". This is the same Tom Coburn that said the gay community "is the greatest threat to our freedom that we face today." This is the same Tom Coburn that said "I favor the death penalty for abortionists." Thankfully he was able to catch up on his cross word puzzle before it was his turn to speak. The following is the e-mail I sent the the Senator's office this evening:

I was so proud to watch the Daily Show on Comedy Central so that I could witness our illustrious Senator doing a crossword puzzle during confirmation hearings for John Roberts. Truly a momentous occasion such as a confirmation hearing for the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court is an excellent time to catch up on a crossword puzzle. Since new DVD's are released on Tuesday's, maybe the Senator can pick up the Complete Third Season of Taxi. That should play long enough for him to not participate actively in the confirmation hearing. Shame on the Senator.

The FRESHMAN Senator should turn back in his annual salary of almost $160,000 for his actions. He is an embarrasment to the state and the institution of the Senate.

The following is a link to the video of his speech on C-Span and his crying jag.

Its all Lame

The Killers were amazing in their mediocrity. I guess its hard to make a good show out of a dozen songs. I think you get spoiled when you see the band before they are famous. Originally we saw their show last year at Bricktown Live and like their name, they killed. This time it seemed as if they were going through the motions. I hope they are tired of their songs, beause frankly I am too.

My current recomendations for new music are as follows:

Richard Buckner
Griffin House
Joseph Arthur
Athlete

They are all incredibly mellow so if that is not your bag then who cares.

Athlete was recommended by British Mike. Their website it www.athlete.mu

You likely know of Richard Buckner even if you have never heard the name. His song "Ariel Ramirez" is the one that tracked on that Volkswagen Toureg commercial where the couple in the RV gets the couple in the Toureg to take the picture for them at the top of the mountain.

Personally I recommend the Itunes interface and online store for all your music.

Thursday is Friday

Well in the news today, they were expelling Jews from the Gaza settlements. It really doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but there were some hot Jewish chicks being removed by Israeli soldiers. I just remembered we saw the Norman Nobody guy from the car commercials at The Killers show on Monday. They were decent, its hard to get a great show out of 12 songs though. Friday night we're going to go and see Horse Called War. They are hardcore, so if you like getting your teeth kicked in, check it out
http://www.horsecalledwar.com/

Right now I'm listening to some rarities from Counting Crows. They make these new emo rockers look like a commercial for sunshine. My mellowness is so effusive, maybe that why "Long December" is my favorite christmas song. I just picked up Adobe Audition 1.5 so hopefully before long I'll have some podcasting links that will freak your beans.

Back in the Game!

Word up to all the homies out there. We're back on track so lets update. The Killer's show on monday night was marvelous. Lots of Drunk Girls with Low Self Esteem. Too bad the killers only have one album, its hard to make a show out of a dozen songs. I saw Carly and Lindsay on monday night. Both are such cuties. It would be hard to pick. Got a hug from Jasmine of Friday night. She may be the most beautiful woman in the world to me. September 14, The Redwalls are coming to town. Tix are $7 and well worth the price. Their new album DeNova is amazing go get with it. Plus its at Bricktown Live so mui intimate.
